![]() ![]() I make these threads to prompt intelligent, analytical discussion about video games as narrative art and all comments pertaining to that discussion are welcome. This thread is a close reading of BioShock Infinite and I present it as a valid and factual breakdown based on the actual text of the game. But thank you for stopping by anyway, and maybe you will still enjoy the read. If you feel that way, this thread obviously isn't for you. Please do not use this thread as a platform to complain about how much you hate Infinite. Because Infinite's Vigor system does make sense, is explained culturally, is explained historically, and are as naturally woven into the plot as BioShock's more famous Plasmids. Vigors are only in BioShock Infinite because they had to be, because it's a BioShock game, and there is nothing more to it. It is a common complaint, a regular criticism, and something people cite as a weak point in BioShock Infinite's world. You may have clicked this thread because, like many, you agree that Vigors feel misplaced in BioShock Infinite. The Achievement/Trophy icon depicts a Vigor bottle with lightning bolts around it and the Murder of Crows logo in the center, along with spikes around the Vigor.First and foremost: We tricked you, monster.Find a location with enemies not too far from a checkpoint, perform Vigor combinations until your Salts run out and reload to start over, until you have gained the Achievement/Trophy. To save Salts or to obtain this Achievement/Trophy quicker, the player can abuse the game's checkpoint system.Keep track of the Vigor combinations that you have performed, as it might be hard to remember which you have performed and which you haven't, when trying to perform the ones you have already performed.Any enemy will do, though Columbia Citizen do not count towards this, along with Heavy Hitters, which are not affected by Vigor combinations. The player doesn't have to kill an enemy with the Vigor combination, the enemy must simply be affected by it.The player can perform the combinations on an enemy at any time during the game, as long as they have the right Vigors and Salts.Undertow is found on the floor in the Office of Jeremiah Fink in the Factory. It is only obtainable after opening the Tear in the Bull House Impound. Charge is found in an armory by the elevator to Shantytown in Finkton Proper. ![]() ![]() Shock Jockey is "given" to the player by Cornelius Slate in the "Comstock's Vengeance" section by the First Lady's Memorial in the Hall of Heroes.Bucking Bronco is found in a crate right before entering the Patriot's Pavilion Plaza of Soldier's Field.Murder of Crows is dropped by the first Zealot of the Lady the player kills at the Fraternal Order of the Raven headquarters in the Comstock Center Rooftops.Devil's Kiss is dropped by the first Fireman the player kills at Shady Lane in the Town Center.Possession is obtained at Possession Stall at the Fairgrounds in the Town Center (plot related). The first Vigor the player can obtain is Possession and the last the player needs for the Vigor combinations is Undertow: The player will need 7 out of the 8 Vigors obtained in the game ( Return to Sender is the only Vigor which is not part of a Vigor combination). ![]()
